Understanding the Admin Grid Editor for Hotel Availability Management
The Admin Grid is a visual calendar interface that gives you a bird’s eye view of your entire property’s availability. Rather than opening each room’s calendar individually, the grid shows all your room types across a date range simultaneously — letting you bulk edit hotel room availability in WordPress with a few clicks instead of navigating room by room.

How to read the Admin Grid

How to Block Dates in Bulk — Free WordPress Hotel Availability Management
Available in the free version — no Pro licence required
Blocking dates prevents guests from making bookings on those days. Use this for maintenance periods, owner stays, cleaning days between changeovers, or any dates you need to hold back from the booking calendar. Blocked dates appear as unavailable in the guest-facing booking form immediately after saving.
Open Calendar & Pricing
Go to Hotel Booking → Calendar & Pricing in your WP admin. The Admin Grid loads with your room types on the left and the current month’s dates across the top. Use the date navigation to move to the month or period you need.
Select the dates you want to block
Click on a cell in the grid and drag across the dates you want to block. The selection highlights as you drag. To block the same dates across multiple room types, drag vertically across rows as well as horizontally across dates — the entire selected area applies to all selected room type and date combinations.
Toggle Block Dates to On
With your dates selected, toggle the Block Dates switch to On. The selected cells change to the blocked state indicator. This marks those dates as unavailable in the booking system — guests will not be able to select them in the booking calendar.
Save Changes and verify
Click Save Changes. The blocks are written to the database immediately. Open your booking form in a new incognito tab and try to select those dates — they should appear greyed out or unavailable. If they still show as available, clear your caching plugin before testing again.
💡 To unblock dates: Select the blocked cells in the Admin Grid, toggle Block Dates to Off, and save. The dates immediately return to available status. Blocking dates does not affect or cancel any existing confirmed bookings on those dates — only new bookings are prevented.
How to Override Nightly Pricing for Specific Dates (Pro)
Requires an active Modern Hotel Booking Pro licence
Price overrides let you set a custom nightly rate for specific dates or date ranges, overriding the base rate you set at the Room Type level. This is how seasonal pricing works in practice — the base rate covers the standard period, and price overrides handle peak season, public holidays, long weekends, last-minute promotions, and any date where your standard rate doesn’t apply.
On beachhouse.ro, Black Sea coast summer (July–August) runs at roughly double the spring rate. I set the base rate for the standard period, then use a single price override across the summer weeks to set the peak rate. Takes about 3 minutes per season. Without the Admin Grid, adjusting rates for individual dates would be impractical across even a handful of rooms.
Setting a price override — step by step
- Go to Hotel Booking → Calendar & Pricing
- Navigate to the date range you want to price differently
- Click and drag to select the dates in the grid — select across all room types affected, or just the specific room type rows you need
- With the dates selected, enter the custom nightly price in the Price Override field — for example, enter 180 to set €180 per night for those dates
- Do NOT toggle Block Dates — leave it Off. You want the dates available but at a different price
- Click Save Changes
- The overridden dates now display the custom rate in your booking form and calendar
⚠️ Common mistake: Toggling both Block Dates and entering a price override on the same selection. A blocked date is unavailable — the price override won’t matter if the date can’t be booked. Set Block Dates OR a price override, not both. If you accidentally block dates you meant to price-override, unblock them first and then apply the price override separately.

You manually block dates yourself in the Admin Grid. Useful for owner stays, maintenance, private bookings taken offline, and any dates you want to hold back for any reason.
Limitation: When a guest books on Airbnb, you have to manually block those dates in your WordPress calendar yourself. This takes time and if you forget, you risk a double booking.
Pro
Automatic iCal Sync
When a guest books on Airbnb or Booking.com, those dates are automatically blocked in your WordPress calendar via iCal feed synchronisation. No manual action required — the calendar stays in sync across all platforms.
Why I upgraded: A double booking between beachhouse.ro and Airbnb nearly cost me a guest. After that, automatic sync became non-negotiable.

Troubleshooting Hotel Booking Calendar and Availability Issues
Blocked dates still showing as available in the booking form
Almost always a caching issue. Clear your WP caching plugin cache, server cache, and browser cache in that order, then reload the booking page in an incognito window. If the dates still show available, reopen the Admin Grid and confirm the cells show as blocked — if they don’t, the save may not have completed. Re-select and save again.
Price override field not visible in the Admin Grid
Price overrides are a Pro feature. If you’re on the free version, the price field doesn’t appear. Confirm your Pro licence is active under Hotel Booking → Licence. If the licence shows as active but the field is still missing, deactivate and reactivate the plugin to reload the Pro features.
The booking form is still showing the base rate on dates with a price override
Clear all caches and test in incognito mode. If the base rate still shows, reopen the Admin Grid and verify the override cells show the custom price indicator. Also confirm you saved after entering the override — clicking into a new field after entering the price without saving will discard the change. Re-enter the override and click Save Changes explicitly.
The Admin Grid is not loading or appears blank
Open your browser’s developer console (F12 → Console) on the Calendar & Pricing page and look for JavaScript errors. A conflict with another plugin or theme is the most common cause of a blank Admin Grid. Temporarily deactivate other plugins to identify the conflict. Also check you have at least one published Room Type — the grid has nothing to display without room types.
